Sleeping Beauties

It still amazes me how much sleep Layla and Lucy need - they seem to find it in the most unlikely places. They both settle down quietly (and are accident-free) for the night and after each playtime they sleep again for another couple of hours. If it wasn't for all the potty breaks, this would be pretty easy. Hopefully they are trained soon!

Say 'hello' to Layla and Lucy

 after a bath

We finally agreed on their names!!! We think that Layla and Lucy are the perfect names for those two. Layla is on the left with the blue band - and Lucy is on the right with the pink one. They have very different character traits and temperaments. They are both happy, cuddly and content but Layla is much more active, playful, and mischievous than her sister. Lucy loves her food (she weighs 1/2 kilo more than her sister), listens better - especially when she knows there is a treat in my hand - but is also more independent. They are both busy discovering our garden. I am just glad that it's all fenced in since they like to explore hidden little coves in bushes and trees.

Getting wild in the snow

First they don't want to go out into the cold and then they don't want to come in! What a dilemma. We got some real snow today and were playing like mad in it. The puppies were so exhausted that they voluntarily crawled into their cage and settled down for a big nap.

Play time for all the girls

One minute they were peacefully asleep looking like two little angels and the next....look for yourself! They loved V's ponytail and wouldn't let go of it. She got a kick out of it herself but realized soon that those sweet puppies have razor sharp baby teeth. At the end I had to rescue her from her small attackers. It took her a while to catch her breath from laughing so hard.

Our First Snow

The weather prediction of 10 cm snow didn't quite come true but we did get a whole centimeter to enjoy. It was just enough to cover the grass. At first, the pups were a bit hesitant to venture into the white, wet and cold powder but soon forgot their worries and went crazy in the little bit of snow. It was hard to keep track of them with my camera. They were rolling and sliding but they didn't seem to mind at all. Afterwards, both of them slept blissfully happy and exhausted after their big excitement. I can't wait until they experience winter wonderland in my hometown in Austria.

It was good to get them out early since it started to rain a while later and continued to do so for the rest of the day - it's England after all.

Our First Bath

I am happy to report that we all had a restful first night. As soon as the light was off the puppies settled down in their cage and fell asleep. At around 7:30am I went downstairs to make sure they were alright since it was so quiet but they were both still sleeping peacefully.

Later this morning we gave both of them their first bath. They seemed to love the water and quietly let me shampoo and wash them. They are so fluffy and soft again. What a great day!

Our First Day

We did it - we got our two goldendoodle puppies - what an exciting day!

Everything went like clockwork. I drove with two of our kids the 1 1/2 hours to our breeder who had the puppies and all our paperwork ready. The beautiful countryside is the perfect environment for raising dogs and we promised to send lots of photos to our breeder.

We arrived and one look at those two and we were all in love! They are just too cute. They were both wonderful on the drive back - no accidents! - and they seemed to feel right at home at our house. They just needed a little help with climbing the stairs but otherwise enjoyed our garden. Both are now sleeping exhausted and (hopefully happy) at my feet.

My goldendoodle diary-

  1. Since I don't believe I have been gifted with the wonderful talent of writing I am planning to do short and to the point entries for this goldendoodle blog. It should be a fun experience for friends and family to watch us raise our new and cute goldendoodle puppies through this blog.

  1. This story started with the passing of our wonderful goldendoodle 'Duchess' just a few months ago. My parents and my family were inconsolable (we shared the dog with my parents because of British quarantine regulations) and after some soul searching I came to the conclusion that we needed a new dog - this time one for us and one for my parents who live in Austria. I found a breeder here in the UK and our adventure begins. We are picking up the two goldendoodle puppies - it's the only breed for us! - this Saturday. The mother is a standard poodle and the father is an English golden retriever. Both have excellent pedrigrees and we can't wait to finally hold our puppies. We have already seen them before Christmas (see photo above) but weren't allowed to touch them since they weren't vaccinated. I'm planning to travel to Austria in April to deliver my parents belated present to them (we gave them a photo of their dog for Christmas).

  1. Let the adventure begin!
